M2KR Moses Taiwa Molekekwa 2025 Remixes Episode Four

REMIXES 2025 SERIES continues the MELT2000 Revisited project, honouring the musical legacy of Moses Taiwa Molelekwa through genre-defying reinterpretations. This year’s lineup includes rising and established producers from across Africa and beyond, each offering a unique sonic perspective on Molelekwa’s pioneering sound.

Morocco-born, London-based Yescene brings his signature house music touch to Wa Mpona, originally dropped from Genes & Spirits in 1997 for being “too Kwaito.” The track’s genre-blending nature finds new life through Yescene’s dynamic remix. Sibu Manzini from Eswatini reimagines the same track, drawing from his choral and Afro house background.

From Johannesburg, Shamrock Guitor adds a live instrumental edge to Rapela, blending house music and guitar performance in real time. Trevor Mako, a multifaceted South African artist, also revisits Wa Mpona, adding soulful textures informed by his deep musical expertise.

Sphecific, a respected name in Gauteng’s deep house scene, joins the series with his refined underground aesthetic. Lastly, a rediscovered remix featuring poet Mak Manaka and legendary guitarist Madala Kunene breathes new life into the catalogue, resolved after years of mystery.

The 2025 series bridges generations and styles, reaffirming Molelekwa’s enduring influence on African electronic music.
